Scality’s leaders have created Le Club to recognize and reward team members selected each year for their exceptional contribution to the company.
Together with this acknowledgment, Le Club members are also offered the opportunity of taking a trip together, to rest and enjoy the Scality spirit outside the workplace.
For the year 2017, 20 employees have been chosen. Scality will publish a profile of a different team member each week.
Meet Maria Garzona
“I always say to young people, about their jobs, that they should never consider that they have reached their peak, there will always be one more thing to accomplish.” Throughout her life, Maria Garzona has always applied this advice to herself. As a sales person, she is very driven and she has always set the bar high to reach her goals. During her career, she has worked for three large IT companies, each time ending up at the top of her game, managing people and negotiating big contracts.
At Scality, where she arrived less than two years ago, Maria shows the same dedication and energy. As an account manager, she had a great start, as she obtained, only one year after her arrival, the second biggest deal in the company’s history.
The key to her success? Her honesty and the close relationships she builds with her clients. “Maria is really authentic and straightforward. She is unique in creating some sort of connection with her customers, not only business wise but also from a personal standpoint. As a result, they trust her and feel comfortable doing business with her,” confides one of her colleagues. Another one adds, Maria has no taboos, she is never scared of starting conversations or opening new doors with customers, while at the same time she cares about them and wants to deliver the best service.”
Outside of work too, Maria has got the same enthusiasm. She is a big sports fan and a huge supporter of various American football, basketball and baseball teams. She also enjoys running and has taken part in several races, including half marathons and mud runs.
In 2009, she fulfilled her dream and opened two candy stores, one in New York and one in the suburbs. To her, it was another thing to accomplish, an occasion to stretch herself and do something different. It was also a fun experience as she really enjoyed getting to know all the children and families visiting her shop.
Most of all, Maria, as the mother of two children, is really proud to say that she has been able to both work and raise a family successfully. “I really strongly think that, as a woman, you can find a balance between your job and your family. When my children were small, I never missed a school function or a school play, and I always made them dinner and put them to bed,” she says.
But for Maria, being successful is not enough. Ever interested in and caring about people, she wants to share her experience to help others improve. As part of an organisation, she helps young girls from challenging backgrounds to go to college and have access to career choices. “I take the girls on field trips to show them different kinds of businesses and introduce them to women of all ages doing all sorts of jobs. My goal is to open their minds to the fact that they’ve got a lot of choices,” she explains. Maria also works helping families for social services and gives of her time to help at a food pantry. For Maria, there always will be one more thing to accomplish…
