We’re proud to support diversity at Scality
Scality celebrated its first ever retirement at the end of 2017. In the start-up world, full of young engineers and where being over 30 years of age is considered being old, this milestone is rare enough to be noticed.
Diversity is part of our strength, and Scality employees are of all ages, all backgrounds; they come from different cultures, faiths and have had different schooling and upbringings. We believe that this diversity is key to challenging ourselves and boosting creativity within our teams.
It follows then, that Scality strongly supports diversity outside its offices worldwide. With its social responsibility program, Scality offers each employee the chance to support a charity or non-profit of his choice and will match his or her donation.
Projects supported range from organizations that provide educational support, gender rights, child protection and wildlife conservation.
Scality staff supported the following organizations in 2017
The Laurette Fugain association’s main objective is to fight leukemia. In 2017, Scality chose to support this association while taking part in the Course du Coeur, a running and cycling relay race from Paris to the French Alps. The idea originally came from the desire of Scality runners to show their solidarity with another employee upon her return from a 6-month fight against a rare form of leukemia and to send a clear message about Scality’s commitment towards organ donation.
The association acts on three very distinct levels: – Financial support of medical research project – Raising awareness on organ donation as a living person – Support to patients and their families during and after their hospitalization.
The Holberton School scholarship
The total cost of living in San Francisco is 62.6% higher than the U.S. average. In 2017, Scality, together with CloudNOW, Google and Accenture, chose to support students in need wishing to attend the innovative software engineering school Holberton based in the Bay Area by launching a scholarship program.
“It is not about lowering the bar. It’s about creating the same amount of opportunity for everyone-and with the Holberton/CloudNOW scholarship program, we are making sure that economics are no longer a barrier to getting a top job in tech.” Giorgio Regni, CTO at Scality.
Save the Children
Save the Children is an international organization that promotes children’s rights, provides relief and helps support children in developing countries. Scality, throughout its Social Responsibility program allows each employee to ask the company to match their own donations to foundations or associations or to propose collective initiatives for causes they wish to support. Save the Children was one of many organizations Scality employees chose to support in 2017. Save the Children’s main mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treat children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.
Wildlife Conservation Network
At Scality, we believe that taking care of human diversity starts by protecting the environment in which we live, and biodiversity is a strong element of that belief. The impacts of species migration, species extinction and global warming on the human population are plentiful and will only become greater with the ever-increasing human population on the planet. Scality employees are concerned by this and have chosen to support the Wildlife Conservation Network to help protect our resources. WCN’s main actions and objectives are to protect endangered species and preserve their natural habitats by supporting entrepreneurial conservationists who pursue innovative strategies for people and wildlife to co-exist and thrive.
Watch One of our Employees Advocating for Women in Technology Careers
Dora Korpar joined Scality in 2016 as a software engineer. Watch as she offers encouragement to other women who want to pursue a career in technology.
Dora was also featured in an article in the New York Times describing how the Holberton School attracts students from all walks of life.
