Scality Conversations – Ep. 3 – Evolving Data Center Hardware

Data center hardware innovation is booming.

It’s obvious that we’ve noticed trends on the software side: distributed applications, platform as a service, software-defined storage, etc.; but what about the changes that have been occurring on the hardware side? Flash, SMR, IP drives, Server Storage, and many more are at various stages of adoption, with more coming.

Join David A. Chapa, Chief Technology Evangelist at Seagate and Leo Leung, VP of Corporate Marketing at Scality, as they discuss the newest hardware technologies and patterns that are influencing data center architecture today.

David is Seagate Cloud Systems and Solutions Chief Technology Evangelist with more than 25 years in the storage industry, focusing specifically on data protection, DR, and business continuity. He has held senior level technical positions with companies such as Quantum, OpenVision (Veritas), ADIC, Unisys, NetApp and the ESG (Enterprise Strategy Group). He is co-author of “Implementing Backup and Recovery,” and technical editor of “Cloud Security,” “Security 2020,” and “Web Commerce Security Design and Development.”

Leo is responsible for Scality’s corporate positioning and overall content strategy across all channels. Leo was previously VP of Product and VP of Marketing for Oxygen Cloud, a cloud data management company with file sync and share and managed file transfer products. Prior to that, he was at EMC for seven years in a range of product management, product marketing, and strategy roles across traditional storage products like VNX and research projects like P2P storage.

This Scality Conversation will have two parts:

1) A quick overview of Scality RING storage and what it can do for your business.
2) An open discussion with David Chapa. Among our topics:

  • What new hardware technologies are already impacting data centers today? Why?
  • What technologies are around the corner and why are they relevant?
  • What is the relationship between architecture trends like software-defined and the hardware underneath?

Scality Conversations will be hosted by Leo Leung, VP of Corporate Marketing.
